Company Notes

June 2009

  • Very cheap but support is not very good.

Oct 2010

  • Good and reliable and fairly reasonably priced however there interface is a little to be desired and is cumbersome for managing 100s of domains, never spoken to their customer service and not had any issues.
  • For our handful of other TLD domains [non .uk] we use 123-reg. It's rubbish, but it's cheap.
  • Top tip though: avoid 123-reg like the plague. They are truly awful, not least because their accounts are wildly insecure - it's generally not possible to log out of their dismal UI without using web dev tools to clear http auth! Their hosting is dire too - they seem to think that 'fully managed' means you do everything yourself. Response times for support queries stretch to weeks. Just stay away.

June 2009

  • Good interface and accounting tools
http://gandi.net

June 2009

  • Based in France.

Oct 2010

  • I've been using Gandi for eight years now without many problems. Customer service is a bit on the sparse side but the admin is quite flexible. However, don't be tempted to try their XEN hosting. It sucks.
  • Count me as a happy gandi user too; and I've found their support pretty good when I've needed it.

June 2009

  • Control DNS hosts/aliases, mail forwards etc

October 2010

  • I've found joker.com to be affordable, reliable and easy to use. I think it's german... They are very efficient at any rate.

June 2009

  • They know what they're doing, offer a variety of options and are pretty cheap

June 2009

  • Pretty cheap. But poor admin pages, and make transfer awkward.

Oct 2010

  • Extremely poor support. The TTL on these domains is large, the configuration for their domains is limited as such you cannot add SPF/TXT records

June 2009

  • Pretty cheap. Rated top for service by PC Pro.

June 2009

  • Pretty cheap. Some find service poor.

Oct 2010

  • Recently updated contact system looks nice (Create Contacts to be set to domains), but it's a manual job to update old domains.
http://www.namecheap.com

Oct 2010

  • I use namecheap, the interface is quite dated but the functionality is good. Plus theres always a coupon code for a quick discount.
  • Seem okay although I only use them for a few domains. I have found their admin interface to be really slow sometimes.

Oct 2010

  • Whilst being a little more expensive than others, we've had next to no problems and having extremely low TTLs is mainly the reason we use them, very good customer service. Anycast. Don't support transfer of .co.uk domains.
http://www.godaddy.com

Oct 2010

  • I use GoDaddy for some of my domains and they make me quite angry. Their checkout interface is so crowded they managed to get me to pay for something (that I didn't want) when I thought I was paying for something else. Not recommended for this reason although their user interface seems ok.
  • godaddy is expensive for uk domains
Nominet
  • For more than a few hundred .uk domains it may be worth considering joining Nominet and becoming a registrar. There's a £400 up-front fee and £100 a year on top of that but domains are then £2.50 a year

Misc Negative Comments

Oct 2010

  • "uk2 is really expensive"
  • "enomcentral is not bad, but again not great for european domains."
