Exterior of the pub from Gresham Street.
The basement function room. The picture makes the room seem smaller than it actually is, as it's L-shaped around the bar which is to my left out of shot. The pillars might present a problem for talks.

Opinion

There was a large Fullers private bar in the room which would be open with no minimum charge. Since the room hire is also free, this is the cheapest option by far and would allow the budget to be spent elsewhere, perhaps on buffet food, better equipment for talks, or drinks.

The room is very large but an unfortunate shape and the pillars would not help for talks. However this should be a workable problem as the room was large enough that a decent view on a projector could be had for at least half of the room and we'd need to crowd up a bit for the talk. They can't provide projection equipment but would store ours much as The Hope currently does. essay

Because it's a basement it's not the brightest, airiest place I've seen. Also wifi is not an option.

Food was limited but probably reasonably good (I didn't try it but Fullers places are usually OK). Not too expensive either.

Although the area isn't littered with other pubs and restaurants, it's easily accessible from the West End and the City.
